The Texas State Railroad Campground is located 3 miles west of the beautiful East Texas town of Rusk and is a great spot for a fun southern escape! We offer campsites with water only, water and electricity or full hookups with 30/50-amp service and sewer. The Grounds offer picnic tables, fire rings, and WiFi! There are separate showers and restrooms onsite, a nature trail and a campground office complete with a gift shop and firewood for purchase. The 15-acre Cherokee Lake is where fishermen will find a variety of fish including crappie, catfish, striped bass, sauger, walleye, smallmouth bass, bluegill and largemouth bass. Whether they are casting, spinning or flying fish, chances of getting a bite are good!

Onsite, travelers may look forward to historic sightseeing. For the history buff, there's plenty of other historic sites, a number of green spaces of nature walks and scenic viewing and of course, visitors may expect great local eateries and bars to enjoy. Whether it's for a night or two, we hope to see you soon!

Park is beautiful with lots of pines. Very shady. Sites are spaced out so not crowded. Small lake you can fish in but didn’t catch anything. Picnic tables are all around the lake. Bathrooms, picnic tables and fire rings need fixing or replacing. We would visit again as it was peaceful and quiet in Nov.

Still a stunning setting for a campground but maintenance is no where close to what it was as a state park.

First, concerning my camp site reservation, I had requested a site nearest the Club House. The site assigned was not close. There were ten other sites closer which were not rented and were available! Regarding the Club House which we have reserved and utilized since 1984, it was filthy, had not been cleaned from a preceding rental, the garbage was full to overflowing onto the floor! There were no trash bags in the facility. The availability of human resources was lacking. Securing the Club House key was a chore! There seems to be no one to communicate our difficulties to at the park or via phone! Communication is an utter disaster! Also, for several years, the Women’s Bathroom has been a pain to open safely! One of our ladies cut her had on a metal protrusion trying to open the door. We have remarked about this problem a number of times. Finally, with all the above said and done, we would like to reserve the Club House for Oct 18, 2025. Rusk Park. For the last several years we’ve attended, no one has been on site to assist us with our problems and re-registration. But, Rusk State Park is central to our families located on the Gulf Coast and Deep East Texas. Thank you for your every kindness and consideration. Big Jim Salles

We had a great family reunion at the Clubhouse. It had been swept and the restrooms were clean and had toilet paper and soap. The appliances worked fine. However, we wiped off the countertops and they were filthy. We also wiped down the tabletops and chairs and swept off the sidewalks. We definitely left it cleaner than we found it. We are still disappointed that each restroom only has one stall. A handicapped family member had to go to the train station to use the restroom since he couldn't get his wheelchair through the door of the Clubhouse restroom. All in all, we had a great visit. PS A table was broken and one of the ceiling fans wasn't working. Thankfully, the weather was cooler. Thank you.

Excellent park for its age! The pull through spots were very accessible. We had the park to ourselves, we could not believe such a nice park was empty!

I have no complaints. The bathrooms were clean. Quit pleasant.

The park is beautiful and peaceful. The folks at the office/ranger station were really wonderful. I will definitely stay there again next week when I go back down. The Railway campground is close to everything in Rusk but you feel like you drove away from it all while you are there. Plan on your cell phone not working very well but the camp wireless is pretty strong so you can use that and keep connected to the world if you need to.

Campground is generally in disrepair. Showers and bathrooms need attention. Roads are covered with pine needles and grass cuttings. Campsites are showing age and neglect. Wifi was weak at our site.

The campground was very quiet, well shaded and great water pressure.

very pleasant, loads of trees and the grandsons loved hunting for frogs (poor frogs). Water, electric and sewer hookups were fine, and it was extremely quiet and dark. Will be back.

Needs to be upgraded. The walkway to the bathhouse was a danger to walk on

Quite with plenty of room between sites.

This is a very nice park and we enjoyed our time here. My wife and I did try to fish in the lake, but the water lilies close to shore prevented any effort we made. It is not a knock on the park, it is nature. We plan to return next year on vacation.

Very nice place to stay. The sites are a little difficult at times. I had to switch sites because of my trailer, the staff was very accommodating with my request. Would definitely stay there again.

Overall it's pretty good. A bit long in the tooth and could use some TLC here and there. Great setting. Be careful to look at the map closely. Sites are different sizes and some can be a bit awkward to get into if you have a big rig. A few REALLY tight turns as you go further into the park. If you rely on internet better have your own. The park network was hit and miss, up and down the whole time we were there. Cell ph service was spotty but our cell wifi worked just fine. Peaceful place and the road noise (what there is of it) sounds more like the wind blowing through the trees. We'd stay again.

We were very pleased with the reservation process. The parking site 26 was rough and undeveloped but once parked it was very pleasant. Even with a wedding party in the "lodge" it was quiet and peaceful.

The park is not maintained- tall grass, nasty showers, picnic tables rotted, just to name a few things. We reserved 3 nights and left after second night. If it is a state funding issue - someone needs to put some priority to this historic park.

My family thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at TX St RR Campground. The staff was super friendly. One gentleman passed us taking photos in front of a beautiful Dogwood, he turned his golf cart around, came back, and offered to take a family shot for us. The lady who greeted us in the office let us drive around and pick our site. It is a small park. We found only one hiking trail, but we enjoyed walking it. We also rode our bikes. Warning, there are hills! Grandkids loved the downhill rides and also had fun on the swings and monkey bars. I saw a splash pad for summer use. We traded being further away from road noise for being in a larger space and closer to a bathroom. It worked well for us, but if you are a light sleeper, be aware that there will be some noise. Seeing the train come into the station was fun, and there are things to see at the depot. The only thing I thought could be improved was the bathroom nearest our site. (Tent Camping near the Clubhouse) It wasn't exactly dirty, but it wasn't exactly clean either. But to be fair, it had rained, so a clean floor would be hard to keep. It was a one-seater with a shower and sink, all in the same little room. Ladies' bathroom had a bench, the men's bathroom did not. We discovered a better bathroom on the RV side. My husband already wants to go back and bring his fishing pole. Oh, if you like barbeque and/or the Astros, visit All-Star Barbeque located about two miles from the park. We appreciate the recommendation from the office staff for that one.
