About Dallas

When you think of Dallas, a sprawling concrete jungle might come to mind. You wouldn’t be wrong, but the surrounding area also has a plethora of lakes and hilly green meadows that are perfect for camping. The Dallas-Fort Worth area is home to a wide array of RV parks, offering something for all kinds of campers. Some camping favorites are at Lake Texoma, Lake Tawakoni, and Lake Whitney. Each offers excellent opportunities for bird-watching, fishing, boating, and hiking. Though these locations are secluded enough to make you feel like you’ve escaped from the bright lights of the city, they’re still under a two-hour’s drive from DFW. For lakeside RV sites even closer to the city fun, try camping at Lake Arlington, Joe Pool Lake, Mountain Creek Lake and Benbrook Lake. Speaking of fun in the city, there's plenty to do in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Popular attractions include the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District, Meadows Museum, museums of art and Holocaust Museum, Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, the Texas Theater and the Ronald-Kirk Bridge. Visitors can also find rodeos, cattle drives, BBQ pits, Tex-Mex restaurants, and lots of huge, authentic cowboys hats. As locals will tell you, the best night to visit the city is on weekend nights at 8 pm, when the Championship Rodeo is showcased. The most talented cowboys show off their skills at Cowtown Coliseum, after which everyone convenes at Billy Bob’s Texas for “the world’s largest honky tonk.” For a genuine Texas experience, camping just outside the bright lights of the city gives visitors the best of both worlds. Happen to be visiting in late September or early to mid October? Be sure to visit the Texas State Fair, and take a portable fan because the weather can get toasty! This is a beautiful metropolitan city with so much space and greenery for excellent camping; it's certainly worth a visit.
