About Champaign

Champaign RV parks and campgrounds are dispersed around the outskirts of the metro area with Urbana, and the closest campsite to downtown can be found just to the north around Mahomet and Rantoul. Further out of town to the west is the city of Monticello, where Forest Preserve Park provides some of the most popular camping in Illinois. Another popular option for area RVers is to drive past nearby Peoria and set up camp near Kickapoo, which is situated along I-74 and sandwiched by Jubilee College State Park and Wildlife Prairie Park, two of Illinois’s most popular spots for outdoors enthusiasts.

The Urbana-Champaign region has lots to see and experience both in and around downtown. The University of Illinois is here, and plays a critical role in the local economy and infrastructure. Visit Memorial Stadium where the Fighting Illini football team plays, or the State Farm Center, homebase for the basketball team. The University has its own arboretum and is home to the Spurlock Museum, Krannert Art Museum, and Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.

Check out Meadowbrook Park, where a restored prairie is the focal point, along with attractions like a playground, gardens, trails, and even a farm. Another popular option is Crystal Lake Park near the Champaign County Fairgrounds, where there are ball fields, picnic areas, a fishing pier and seasonal boat rentals. The Crystal Lake Park Family Aquatic Center has slides and shallow pools, plus other water features that will keep you cool and entertained all summer long.
