About Nobleford
Nobleford is a small village in Southern Alberta, Canada. In 1882 the Northwest Mounted Police set up a fort at what would soon become the future townsite. On November 1, 1883, it was officially established as one of the original NWMP posts.
The economy of Nobleford is based on agriculture and coal mining, with coal being mined from both underground mines and open-pit mines in nearby areas such as Luscar. Coal from these local mines provides fuel for all three of Canada's major east coast ports; Vancouver, Montreal, and Saint John NB (operating since 1968). There are also a number of natural gas wells within Nobleford's boundaries providing much-needed employment to residents.
The majority of the population of Nobleford has always been of the white race, but in the early 1900s, it contained several large Black communities in what was then known as Wild Rose and Ponteix. During that time period, a depression struck and many black families migrated to Alberta to mine coal for a living.
