The Raton Pass Camp and Cafe is a campground located north of Raton just off I-25 at the top of Raton Pass, New Mexico. Soak in the panoramic views of the Savage Canyon, home to gambel oak, pinion and ponderosa pine, and while you're sitting outside keep your eyes open for the wildlife that calls Raton Pass home. There are bears, mule deer, elk, wild turkeys and scores of beautiful hummingbirds. Our sites are packed level gravel with scenic large back-ins, pull thrus, extra long pull thrus, and budget friendly small back-ins that support 30/50 amp sites. Our clean manicured property will keep you coming back year after year.

Given our convenient location, visitors can take advantage of nearby attractions such as:

  • Capulin Volcano National Monument
  • Trinidad Lake State Park
  • Sugarite State Park
  • Fisher's Peak State Park

Whether its for a short and or long term stay, we hope to see you soon!

Loved the view. Clean and friendly. The Cafe was not open any of the time we were there. So I would be prepared to look for other places to eat.

First time to stay here, stayed in spot #17. Great view, nice small but very clean park. Elevation 7,888, quiet with nice trails for walking dogs. Will stay again when going through colorado and new mexico.

We have stayed at this campground multiple times. Everything about this place is 5 stars all the way. The only caveat is that if you want or need cell service and/or internet, it is not good at all. That said, get location, great, large sites. Park is clean is all respects. Good water pressure. Fantastic views of the mountains and wildlife! Last but not least, the staff is awesome! We had some "nightmarish" type of battery issues on our rig and Mike and Rhonda dug right in and helped us get it resolved. Would have been too overwhelmed to tackle it on our own, and given we stayed at their campground right at the beginning of our trip, I have no doubt we would have had serious troubles on our vacation before it hardly started! I can't recommend this campground, its people, and the facilities overall highly enough!

Was rushed to unhook my rig after being there for 10 minutes. Camp host has the spot with the best view and don't plan on coming through and staying hooked up for a night because there isn't enough room.

Campground Response

Hello Tyler let's review your 8/15 stay. You booked online and if you would have read any of the info provided at different times while booking you would have known our back in view maximum length is 42". Your fifth wheel is 32' 42-32' equals 10'. So unless you have a super short truck common sense would have told you unhooking was mandatory. Another option would have been to book a pull through which ranges from 70' to 120'. As for being rushed that is simply not true. You were told 3 other guest were waiting to park and we would appreciate you unhooking. Finally our workcampers do not have the best site. They have the narrowest site with remote only parking. So please don't come on here with your wild tales because we don't need your type at our park Hope you enjoyed your one and only visit. Cheers! and Bless your heart.

Such a beautiful place to stay in your RV. Helpful folks guide you to your site that features good 50A, water, and sewer. This was our third time to spend a couple of nights and we WILL be back!

We have stayed here many times on the way to Colorado. People are always very friendly and accommodating. Ask for pull through and almost always get it. They have a really nice bath house. Very clean restroom area and the showers are also clean as a whistle. Never used the laundromat, but it's available if need. Another plus is it's at the top of the pass so nights are cooler than in Raton. Try it once and you won't stay elsewhere.
