Located in Plainfield, Vermont, Onion River Campground has a unique layout. Tree-lined sites along the river create a more social atmosphere than a conventional campground. There is beautiful nature here and the amenities you need. There is a great river access for fishing, swimming, tubing, and wading. If you are looking to escape to the great outdoors then this is the place for you.

Camping at Onion River is respectful, and kind, and we generally have loads of fun. Good people, gardens, walking trails, and picnic tables, are just a few of the things to look forward to. Open May-October. Check-in after 2 pm. Checkout at 12 pm. See you soon!

This campground is dumpy and doesn't seem safe. Do not go here.

The manager of the campground was very responsive and very friendly. Unfortunately, the campground is very miss-represented on the Internet. The full hook-up area is very small and it is difficult to find the sewer drains (just an open pipe in the ground-no lid). Our reserved site, the next camper was parked over the sewer drain. We ended up having to use a different site. The camper next to us had a cracked sewer line which presents a biohazard. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this campground to anybody.

We pulled in the campground with a class B RV. Reservations were made with site #6 being reserved which is near the bath house (my wife cannot walk far). Checked in at office and went into site, chich had a trailer on it. All the sites enar the bath house were taken. I did look at the bath house. It was dirty and unisex, totally unacceptable for my wife to use. Advised the gentleman on our way out. Nice location but needs alot of tender care.

My partner and I had a lovely time camping at these grounds. We were there during the fiddle festival, which was so festive & fun. We got a bunch of water, juice, & snacks from nearby shops to enjoy by our fire at night; by day, we explored the grounds, including the trails through wooded areas, the cool river to swim in, & big open fields with some raspberries to find. The folks at Onion River are so friendly and helpful, providing crafts & coffee in the morning we were there.

Campground flooded, closed for the year. Owner kept my deposit! Classy place. Still fighting to get $248.00 back.

Campground Response

Robert, Roverpass did refund you after the dispute was settled! Additionally, you agreed to a "nonrefundable reservation" which is very clearly stated before you book with us. Your dates were Oct 5-12th in which no deposit was required. Thank you for the review and we know the campground closing after the flood was an inconvenience for everyone!

There was garbage on our assigned site which the owner did clean up and give us a different site. Overall you are in a large field with a another camper right next to you. Bathroom was clean, but I would not stay here again.

Campground Response

We're sorry you had a less than acceptable visit. Onion River Campground is not for everyone. But most of our customers are satisfied with their stay with us. Happy trails!

Nice open field. What a few off the stars. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Look forward to my next trip there.

Campground Response

Thank you, Jeffrey. We enjoyed having you. And we hope you'll come back next year.

Worst campground we have been tricked into staying at ever! Only good for electricity and a dump station. Back area only has porta-potties. Front area has a bath house on a slotted deck floor (open to the ground below) with only cold water at the sinks. Our neighbor on site 23 had a school bus that he was working on (sawing, drilling, hammering, etc.) with his tools and junk all around it. And the WIFI is only by the house where you enter. So run down we didn't dare rely on the water being safe to consume.

Campground Response

Sorry you had a bad experience here. Our campground is not for everyone. And by law our water is regularly tested for safety, so others reading this know there is nothing to fear. We in fact only have a bath house for regular use. The porta-potties were left over from a recent event and had not been picked up. We do not keep porta-potties here for regular use. I apologize our bath house facilities were not to your liking.

We had a superb campsite right next to river access. Beautiful spot and good vibes. We were camping with our young children and it was a great place to play. We hope to return soon.

Campground Response

Hi Alana, Thank you so much for your review! We're so happy you had a good stay with us. You're welcome back any time. And we hope you will come back.

Full of mosquitoes. The shower house had no hot water.

Campground Response

We're sorry you had a difficult time with us and less than satisfying experience. We have recently put up signs on our bath house to close the doors at night to keep mosquitoes out of that area. Mosquitoes in general there's not much to be done. (Besides they feed the fish that make our trout fishing renowned.) As for the bath house, the faucets are not hooked up to the hot water. But the showers most certainly are. Following this review we went down and checked to make sure the on-demand water heater was working for the showers and it was. Again, we're sorry for your bad experience.

Campground Response

Glad you had a great time, Jenai! We hope you'll come back.

Campground is a hidden gem, backup to thr River. Staff super nice and willing to accommodate. Other than that, the camp ground should not be open for business other than tenters. I booked a 4 night weekend, 50 Amp and stayed 1 night with intermittent 30 Amp. The water smells ungodly like sulfur. I immediately unhooked the water and went dry camo for the weekend. We packed up and rolled out. They offered in compensation 1 free night mailed to me. Were all set thank you. Will not return

Campground Response

We're so sorry for your bad experience. The amperage problem was fixable if the staff had known you were incorrectly assigned to a 30AMP site, but there was no communication during your stay about either of these two issues. The water was not immediately fixable, but there are few viable solutions to the well water in this area, except to fill your containers and wait. There's no trace of sulphur in less than 12 hours. We have many loyal and returning customers year after year, who love us. Again, we're sorry it was not a good fit for you.

Immediately felt welcomed when we arrived at camp. The tent sites were clean and well taken care of. The Bath house was nice and drinking water provided. Easy access to all the sites Montpelier has to offer. Would stay again if the next time we plan to be in the area wasn't for skiing!

Campground Response

Thank you, Erin! We much appreciate the feedback, and would welcome you again anytime (before October 31st! LOL)

Beautiful and lush campground with trails and the stunning Winooski river to play in and explore. The sites were huge and there is a big field to run and play in. Super friendly owners and everyone at the campground was so happy and polite! This is a gem of a campground and our family cannot wait to return.

Nice quiet campground with access to a stream. However, very dilapidated facilities. No water available at restroom or dump station.

Campground Response

The water has long been fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience during your stay.

Oh my lord this was a very beautiful and serene park that I am glad we found. The staff was not only very helpful they were very affable and treated us like family. There were many different kinds of sites to choose from that had all the amenities we could need. There was so many fun and relaxing activities to choose from that really helped us enjoy the whole park. The location was great as not only were there many beautiful sights to view in the park but also in the surrounding areas. Overall we had a very pleasant visit and can’t wait to go back. - Review provided by RV Park Recommendations & Reviews Facebook Group
