Ekstrom’s Stage Station is a collection of historic log buildings reassembled along Montana’s famous Rock Creek, functioning today as a campground. The campground is situated in a large grassy meadow surrounded by tall pine trees and is famously quaint and quiet, comfortably accommodating RV’s up to 45′ in length. Please call ahead regarding availability for larger RV’s.

The campground offers water & electric sites as well as full hookup sites. Nearby Rock Creek lures fisherfolk from all over and provides the perfect background music for hikers. Basketball, volleyball courts and playground are also provided.

In addition to RV sites and tent sites, there are also rustic log cabins, an historic school house, and two tiny houses on wheels.

Open Dates: May 23 to September 30

RV Sites

None of the A-Loop sites include fire rings. Nor does B1, B2, B3, or B4. Pay careful attention to max lengths, back-in vs. pull-thru, full hookups vs. water & electric only, etc. There is lots of variation from site to site. All RV sites include use of the dump station.

We had a great stay! It was very quiet and the facilities were maintained very well. I would stay there again.

Ecstroms has diminished their appearance in the last few years. It still has value of off the freeway ease, but that's it.

A quaint forest campground. A little difficult to navigate at first but the layout allowed us to have a small tent with our camp trailer and plenty of parking space for friends visiting us. Short walk to Rock Creek to view wildlife. Would stay here again.

Nice enough, but a little too crowded for our style. Everyone was quiet and the bathrooms were kept up. Only negative would be trying to find our site in the dark. We didn't want to drive around with headlights on at midnight and had trouble locating the spot. The instructions were written but not being familiar with the layout and small signs on trees labeling the site made it difficult. Didn't find a map online or posted when we got there of the campground layout. Also nice trail to hike from the campsite.

No matter how many times we stay at Ekstrom's, we always come back for more. For us, it's close to home, provides the electrical hook up we require (for medical needs), has great fishing and a fully equipped fly shop (with draft beer). New owners Jessica, Peter and son Ellis are very nice and accommodating. We'll certainly be back next season.

I really like this place and the location. We have been here several times starting back in the 80’s. This was the first time we had stayed in a cabin, usually bringing our camper. Unfortunately, the 1st night there was a 12 + hour power outage and we, as well as the facility were ill prepared for the situation. There were no lights, no flashlights or candles, no way to charge our phones for light, no HEAT and no bathroom facilities ( nor access to potable water). A porta potty was unlocked for use. We froze our butts off that night as it was in the 40s. We left by 7:30am or so the next morning and went to Missoula for a hot cup of coffee. We received a email stating that the owners were aware of the situation and that they had dropped off water to the campsites but I did not see any at the cabin. When we returned around noon, the power was back on. The second night was much more enjoyable with lights, heat, wi-fi and near by bathrooms with running water. Overall the cabin was clean, fairly quiet, comfortable (although abit chilly) and reasonably priced. I would suggest having a flashlight, maybe a couple of candles and some bottled water on hand if you rent these cabins. Perhaps, as part of the renovations taking place, a backup generator could be considered so that the bathrooms and running water could remain operational? I would stay here again.

I loved the camp ground! The tent spot had a level pad for the tent and was near trees so there was shade from the sun during the day. The restrooms were clean and the showers looked very new. There was a beautiful trail to the creek and the view did not disappoint. The camp host, Pat, was really nice and helpful. I will definitely choose to stay there again. It is really easy to find off the highway but far enough away that you can’t see or hear it.

Nice, quiet place in a beautiful and convenient location. Facilities were a bit dated, but clean and functional. Host is a very nice person. With not much ‘civilization’ within several miles, it will be nice when the restaurant under renovation reopens.

Everything was really nice! There is a nice calm atmosphere around the park. The bathroom/shower houses were clean and bright. We had a nice walk down by the creek in the evening and some deer showed up as if on cue! We will definitely be back!

Pat the host is excellent ! Space B7 was quite a level all you can ask for. Close to Rock Creek Rd and fishing access. If you folks restored the restaurant and cabins to full potential it would be a five star. Hope to see ya next season . Take care Pat!

An absolute GEM !!! Thank you to everyone at Ekstroms Stage Station for another wonderful camping adventure. The campground is in such a special location with access to many of Montana's treasures. Clean, rustic, comfortable and relaxing!

This place was ideal for our needs. We had both electric and water. The creek runs behind the property and there are several public access points for fly fishing up the road with our best luck at the campground near mile marker 9. We saw many people tubing in the river and wished we had packed our tubes and floating cooler.

The campground spacing is very tight, with no privacy at all. The so-called "showers" have obviously not been cleaned since the 70's with broken shower doors and a very healthy population of spiders to share your low-quality shower time (barely a trickle of water). On the positive side the host was very welcoming with his "canned welcome" and made it clear that no noise is tolerated once the sun goes down. We left a day early and will not be going back.

Campground Response

Ed, please give me a call at 406-825-3183. I'd like to learn more about your experience. We have made every effort to space out campers to give them plenty of room. I don't see that anyone was camped close to your spot. We clean the restrooms daily and inspect them multiple times a day. I've inspected the shower doors myself and see no evidence of them being broken. Our water system runs at 60 PSI. Your review strikes me as vindictive and not constructive. If there is something we can learn from you to help create a better experience for our guests, I'd like to learn about it.

July 2024, visiting my son who lives in Missoula. Ekstroms is a beautiful campground, easily accessible, located on clear mountain stream (Rock Creek), mountains and pines abound. Camp management (Pat) was responsive, kind, helpful and friendly. Ekstroms is 20 minutes outside of Missoula. Easy to get on and off interstate highway, and far enough you don't hear road sounds. One morning after showering I locked my keys in my camper and had to call a locksmith at 6AM. I had multiple people helping me. Many of the people around me stayed here for many years before. It felt like camping in the woods vs structured campground. Bathrooms were clean and well taken care of during my stay. The owners stopped by and made me feel welcome. They personally helped make me a plan for my stay coordinating a trip to Glacier and allowed me to keep my wonderful camping spot. The site is walking distance to a fly shop, with ice, wood, fishing advice and snacks. I will be returning often to this piece of paradise. Respective fellow campers, dogs on leashes, quiet, stars were beautiful, fire rings worked well, had an open area for my pup to play fetch, Rock Creek provided a great place for evening and morning walks.
