Camp Lockett Event and Equestrian Facility (CLEEF) is located on 167 acres of property in the mountainous area of southeast San Diego County. Camp Lockett was designated a California Historic Site in 2009 and was the home of the 10th, 11th and 28th Cavalry during World War II. The Camp Lockett property is located approximately 1/4 mile from the trailhead for the Pacific Crest Trail and would serve as an ideal location for travelers embarking on the famous 2200 mile trek. The Pacific Crest Trail is reserved for hikers, mounted riders and stretches from the U.S. Mexico border to the U.S. Canada border. The facility currently has 12 horse campsites which include water and 2 horse corrals. There is also a tent camping area with water and portable toilets adjacent to the Pacific Crest Trail. Some outdoor actives include backpacking, biking, hiking, stargazing and wildlife viewing to list a few. Whether its for a short and or long term visit, we hope to see you soon!

Great experience. Welcomed by Legend and Papa Bear and had about 15 people camped out on the PCT lawn. Had a yummy burger and spaghetti cookout (staffed by PCT hiker volunteers). Great way to meet a group of people as you start your epic journey

The stars are so pretty. Horse facilities great. Footing great. Great easy trails. Bathroom is far from campsites might be nice to have porta potty or something by campsites but other than that great camping spot!

Camp Lockett is a beautiful dry campground with oak trees on some sites. The pull through sites make it easy to set up your rig. There are numerous trails to hike, an on-site museum about Camp Lockett and the history of the Buffalo Soldiers. There are horse pits on site (bring your horse shoes). Horse corrals have water access. The Pacific Crest Trail southern Trailhead/Terminus is just 1/4 mile away so hikers or horse back riders can start the first leg of it while camping. The Campo Train Museum is nearby and offers day trip train rides.

Best possible location to set up to hike the PCT. Clean and easy access for RV camping. Only downside was the Border Wall Construction site with 24/7 lights but understandable considering the location. Had a very enjoyable stay and was able to get food at the Campo Green Market . Will definitely come back post COVID to visit the historic museums and sites that were closed.
