Second time to the Alvord Hot Springs, but first trip staying in the MASH units. The last time we were there, we got to peek inside one and we decided it would be a great way to spend the holidays. Everyone is so nice and friendly in the office. It was a great way to spend the holidays when I couldn't be with my family. It snowed as we were sitting in the hot springs, which made it a bit magical. I had no cell service (AT&T) until I got about 5 minutes up the road. It was a perfect way to disconnect. We spent hours soaking and even made a run into Fields to get some delicious shakes and fill up with gas so we could zip around on the playa for a bit. The entire region is gorgeous and staying at the Alvord Hot Springs is a wonderful way to experience it.

What a gem! We rented a bunker for two nights and loved that we could soak in the pools any time of the day. Staff was really kind and will give you the code to the road that leads right to open playa so you can drive around out there. We had an amazing time! Thanks Alvord!

Enjoyed meeting the owner who is doing a good thing keeping this special place open. Cabin/ mash units are super basic but worked for us. Hot springs are super classic.

Alvord Hot Springs is a great get away destination. It is in a beautiful and remote location. On clear nights, in addition to two soaking tubs, one can also enjoy amazing star filled skies. The only minor issue I encountered was that, due to being a very pet friendly place, there was pet hair in the MASH unit I rented for the week. When I got back home going to the laundromat and washing my sleeping bag was high on my priority list. If not for this one inconvenience I would have given a 5 star review. A note to those looking to visit: It's remote. Be sure you keep an eye on your gas gauge and keep your tank full as you head out there. Be sure you have enough food and water for the duration of your stay. Shopping options in the area are few and expensive. Be prepared to handle your own trash, trash service on site is limited. Bring your own bedding and season appropriate clothing. It is an open wind swept location and unexpected storms can pop up quickly. Proper preparation will help you enjoy your stay.

The springs were great and the scenery incredible. Definitely worth the trip and we will be back. The person manning the desk was friendly. The Playa was amazing. The units we rented were poorly heated. Our room dropped to 40 degrees overnight even with the extra space heater we brought. It seems as though the owners charge maximum hot spring rates and do the bare minimum. One bathroom for the entire campsite, no showers, tubs dont seem like they're regularly cleaned - I was feeling pretty yucky and cold by the time I left. I was expecting better for the rate.

I was there 10/22/20-10/24. Had a amazing time. Staff was friendly and the grounds were very clean. We rented one of the three bunkers that was in the process of getting electrical upgrades. So those units had no heat. I would have liked to know this before we arrived. As I would have been more prepared. Will definitely be going back.

Unless you really need an overhead light and a table indoors, skip the MASH units and camp, and don't miss the chance to use the access road to explore the desert playa. I did find the water quite hot (even as someone who loves a hot hot spring) and had to wait in line multiple times to use the one restroom.

Spring were nice, accommodation fit the bill (i.e. was what was expected); very friendly staff. Could have used more details in correspondence of what to expect prior to arrival (need to bring own food, what was available on-site and in MASH unit, driving on lakebed experience, capacity of hot springs, etc). Overall good, but really had no idea what was happening until arrival.

What I loved most about this place was its simplicity. When your natural surroundings are this jaw-dropping, you don't need to compete. If you like fancy, this ain't it. It is a perfectly rustic experience. We stayed at the campground two nights to get our bearings then stayed out on the playa the final night. It felt luxurious to wake with the sun on the playa and go back for a soak. The tubs are well maintained and I love that you can control the water temperature. The people who run it are very friendly. The general store is nicely stocked. Excellent base camp for exploring this stunning part of Oregon.

What a gorgeous place! Photogenic in every direction. The soaking was lovely, and it was nice to have two separate pools to get distance from other groups. But I would expect, for the price, to have a picnic table (some spots do have one while others don't), access to free drinkable water, and a trash can/recycling. Basically, we paid for a fire ring, a bathroom, and to soak. Worth it? Maybe.

Not for people who want a Hilton. Rustic and awesome great playa access, friendly and wonderful area to explore. Stop in Fields station if you can, worth the trip down.

What a place! We biked in from Crane, so we were very hot and dusty. Kelly was an amazing camp host and had a fridge stocked full of so many delicious cold beverages. The hot springs was rustic and lovely and we had a great chat with friendly folks in the springs. Alvord Desert is a sight you MUST see, unlike anything else!!

What a delightful spot! During my Alvord Desert/Steens Mountain trip, I couldn’t have imagined a more perfect place to stay. A variety of accommodations, from tent camping through air conditioned cabins await you. I frolicked on the desert playa, hiked through sublime subalpine valleys, and struck up interesting conversations with the other guests as I soaked my bones in the well maintained hot springs. As the sun retreated below the horizon, I captured vivid images of the Milky Way from the Playa. Alvord Hot Springs is both an other-worldly experience, and a great jumping off point to all the amazing terrain that surrounds the area. I’ll be back to visit again soon!

We love this place. Rustic is all the right ways. Nice hosts. Breathtaking desert landscapes that shift throughout the day. Love the hot spring at the end of the dusty day. Great star gazing. Great local folks. Practice your best wild west etiquette ... in other words don’t be an ass and no one will have to beat yours. There is no shade and it’s hot so bring your own. Water, bring lots of that too. Fuel, make sure you got it in Fields before 6pm. It can get windy tie your tent down. Cell service is spotty with AT&T. Verizon is better. It’s a good place to unplug anyway and enjoy the silence ... accept for the Sounds of the occasional person setting a land speed record across the flats ... that might be me ... really fun.

Much rougher than the online pictures show. Only one of the bunk houses has AC. Our unit has stains on the mattresses and a really dirty vibe. We had booked two nights but didn’t stay after checking in. Camping here would be okay but I would not recommend a bunk house.

My wife and I had a BLAST! It was so great staying here. The hot springs at this location were phenomenal, and we’ll definitely be back! Would highly recommend!

Incredible place, but don't expect much. Hosts are cool, view is great, dog and kid friendly, Accommodations are minimalist. pack your trash out, bring your own toilet, relax.

I had a pretty Awesome experience. If you like the heat, this is the place. Hot springs, riding the quads in the middle of the dry lake (awesome) and in the evenings you can see stars for miles. Paul the owner is a personable chap and very informative. Wishing they had air conditioning in all the barracks. I was informed by the owner that showers and another flushing toilet will be added to the camping area. Definitely a plus :)

Fantastic experience. Didn't know what to expect at the desert. Great views, great service. Did not use the campground, stayed on the playa. I have no complaints :)

I called ahead to let them know I'd be late. No issues at all. I saw the map to where the tent sites were. Found the one I wanted, set up, then hit up the hot springs. Sooo relaxing, staring at the Milky Way!

Hey...it is pretty much the only game in "town"...the spaces are graded gravel. No picnic tables or official fire pits. There is a private access road to the lake bed. It is really the best feature about this place. The small office also sells some refreshments and essentials. I felt the prices in the office were reasonable considering the distance from just about anywhere.
