The Alta Campground is located in the scenic wilderness of the Bitterroot National Forest, near the West Form of the Bitterroot River. The yellow-barked ponderosa pine tower over most campsites, and campers can also look forward to an excellent angler and trout fishing opportunity at the riverside. There's also plenty of space by the water for water sports like swimming, kayaking and some boating. While you're at the campsite, keep your eyes open for wildlife like elk, deer and moose, and don't be shy about exploring on foot or bike. There's plenty to see and experience. There's also nearby attractions for campers to enjoy, such as Hughes Creek and natural hot springs just 18 miles from the campground.

Amenities at the park include: trash collection, water, toilets, picnic tables, fire rings and grills.

We really enjoy this quiet laid back campground !! Raked clean camping sites .Limited reserved camping ( fills up but have showed up at 6pm and found available sites , sometimes ) Worth making a reservation early ! Clean ,vaulted restrooms ( TKS Karen for the pleasant aroma ) ! Places to park trailer . Easy and short access to trails and short/all day 4X4/side by for scenic trips and wildlife viewing or fishing Painted rock reservoir just 3 miles away . Like all campgrounds , there are rules to follow but MOST campers accept/welcome . Have gotten to know many different camp hosts . Currant hosts Karen & Gordon are really knowledgeable about the area ,enjoyed having them join our camp fire many times .ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO GOING !
